Announcement from the producer Michael Cohl about the U2's Spider-Man track that its musical track has been late for fifth time but now eventually this track will seen on 15 March.

Producer told The New York Times that the late will allow for "more time to fine-tune aspects of the show, including the new ending"

U2 cost $65 million to the produce due on Spider-Man, its too expensive Broadway concert ever and the tricky production is the main factor for the late opening.

Michael said, "[It was] ten times more complicated to tech than anything else. We simply need more time to fully execute the creative team's vision before freezing the show."

U2 tops list of music's biggest earners

If you can sell a concert ticket, in the music business you can make money. In fact, Forbes magazine suggests, that appears to be the only way to make significant money in the music business.
Forbes has issued its Top 10 earners list of musicians between June 2009 and June 2010, and only two of them, Lady Gaga and the Black Eyed Peas, have had abundant sales of recorded music. On top of that, only two of the acts pulled in more than $100 million, a plateau that Forbes speculates will not be topped next year.
U2 (tickets), which led the list, was one of four rock 'n' roll acts in the Top 10, and of them, only Coldplay, which tied with BEP for No. 10, is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. AC/DC and Bruce Springsteen were Nos. 2 and 3. Springsteen has been off the road since late November; AC/DC just finished a world tour that started in late July. Both acts performed in a mix of stadiums and arena, while U2 played only stadiums.
Beyonce (No. 3) and Jay-Z (No. 6) are now certifiable as pop music's wealthiest family. His income, bolstered by a tour that pulled in $1 million per night, derives from his nightclub chain and most current album; hers is split between tour income and fashion related money.
Madonna clocked in at No. 8, below two of her acolytes, Britney Spears (No. 5) and Lady Gaga (No. 7). Kenny Chesney, at No. 9, was the lone country performer on the list.
Lady Gaga is the only act who is having concurrent hit singles and tours -- not to mention important licensing deals with film and television -- while pulling in endorsement revenue. She is aligned with Polaroid, Virgin Mobile and Monster Cable.
In estimating each act's income, Forbes added touring income plus endorsement and other business deals. It makes complete sense in the case of Spears, who has deals with Elizabeth Arden and Candies, and Beyonce, who pulls in close to half her earnings from Nintendo, L'Oreal and her fashion line.In the case of Jay-Z, however, investments are confused with revenue generators; it's unlikely he is seeing much of a return on his percentages in the New Jersey Nets or the Broadway musical "Fela!"

Glastonbury a success without U2

This year’s Glastonbury Festival was a huge success, although headline act U2 was forced to pull out as headliner when front-man Bono injured his back last month. The festival celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2010, and although U2 did not appear as a group, band guitarist The Edge made a short appearance on stage with Muse on Saturday.

According to Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eavis, he anticipates U2 will play at the festival at some point in the future, as The Edge’s experience with Muse Saturday provided him with a taste of playing on the Pyramid Stage. He went on to add during his interview with BBC News that he is sure the band is keen to playing when it suits them, and that festival-goers will be very pleased to be able to see U2 perform live.

Mr Eavis said this year’s festival, which he holds annually on his dairy farm in Somerset, was one of the best in its 40-year history. He went on to say that although he has three headliners in stored for next year’s Glastonbury Festival, at the moment he will keep the names secret, although he did hint that talks were ongoing with U2 to make a return.

While the vast majority of festival-goers enjoyed the music throughout the weekend without problems, high temperatures were a concern with event officials, who announced that over 3,000 festival-goers treated for dehydration and sunburn. Crime was down from last year at the event, with 345 offences reported in 2010, compared to 363 last year.

The Band’s Financial Controller to U2’s Adam Clayton Sues

Well, the hits just keep on coming for hidden Irish rock act U2 – it seems like pretending to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders isn’t always enough to deflect bad luck. In the wake of a massive tour postponement due to frontman Bono’s emergency back surgery, Spinner reported today that U2 bassist Adam Clayton is suing the band’s financial controller, Gaby Smyth, for alleged negligence.
Smyth “controls the band’s money and knows the intricacies of the group’s investments and holdings,” and, along with “two other accountants in his firm” were named in legal papers filed in Dublin’s High Court. While the accusations have not been made public, Spinner reports that “the case may have its roots in money management issues that surfaced during Clayton’s current High Court case against Carol Hawkins, the bassist’s former housekeeper, who allegedly defrauded him of up to €1.8million.”
“…the legal war just might rip the biggest band in the world apart, as the notion of the bassist taking on Smyth in court threatens to expose every financial detail of the band and its related companies.
“Smyth was responsible for moving the band’s publishing company to Holland in 2007 in a move that save the band millions on royalties it would have otherwise paid under Irish tax law. That decision in Ireland led to heavy criticism of Bono, who took earnings out of his homeland while encouraging the country to aid in anti-poverty initiatives.”
In a related story, Irish scientists are now hard at work, teaming up with various groups of musicologists, designers, and physicists from all over the world, in the hopes of constructing the world’s most miniscule and tiny violin for which the Irish people can play for the band later this year. It’s moment of hope and unity for the scientific nations across the world; kind of like that movie Contact, but, you know, not awful.

Daniel Lanois, a musician and producer whose credits include several U2 Tickets albums as well as releases by Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Peter Gabriel and Emmylou Harris reportedly is in intensive care in a Los Angeles hospital this week for injuries sustained in a weekend motorcycle accident.

According to published reports, the accident occurred Saturday (6/5) in the Silverlake area of Los Angeles, where Lanois lives. Various news outlets quoted a press statement saying, "Lanois suffered multiple injuries but is expected to be released from intensive care soon. Due to the severity of the injuries, Lanois has canceled all upcoming tour dates and promotional activity and will be recuperating for the next two months."

Lanois' current musical project, Black Dub, had been set to launch a European tour, preceded by a kick-off date at the Montreal Jazz Festival.

Early Saturday morning, prior to the accident, Lanois tweeted that he was headed into town for tour rehearsals. "Sweeping up in LA. Headed to the canoe for Black Dub rehearsals soonish."

U2 confirms they will miss Glastonbury after Bono's emergency back surgery

U2 confirmed yesterday they will miss Glastonbury after doctors ordered Bono to rest for two months to recover from emergency back surgery.

The band have also been forced to postpone 16 shows of a North American tour.

Bono called Glasto organiser Michael Eavis yesterday.

The singer said: "I'm heartbroken. We really wanted to be there to do something really special. We even wrote a song especially for the festival."

Mr Eavis said: "U2 are hugely disappointed. At this point we have no comment about possible replacements for their Friday night slot."

Bono, 50, who hurt his back while training for the tour last week, left Ludwig-Maximilians-University hospital in Munich yesterday.

Dr Muller Wohlfahrt said: "Bono had severe compression of the sciatic nerve." He was in a lot of pain and had partial paralysis but recovery prospects are "excellent".

U2 announce DVD release of ‘YouTube’ Rose Bowl gig

U2’s 2009 ‘YouTube’ gig from California’s Rose Bowl stadium is to come out on DVD.

‘U2360° At The Rose Bowl’ will be the band’s first live release available in Blu–ray, and deluxe editions also feature a new documentary called ‘Squaring the Circle: Creating U2360°’. It’s out on June 7.

The gig, which took place on October 25 last year, was broadcast over YouTube live at the time.

U2’s remix album on the horizon

U2 have announced a limited-edition remix album, featuring 13 years of phat beats and, er, genre cash-ins. The album, Artificial Horizon, compiles three new tracks and 10 previously available remixes on a limited edition triple-LP.

isn’t the U2 release that fans were hoping for. In the days before No Line on the Horizon came out last spring, Bono and the boys described a “companion record” due late 2009. Eventually, it was even given a name: Songs of Ascent. But as the seasons wore on, no such songs ascended. The band now say they are working on new material, with an album ETA of June.

In the meantime, there’s Artificial Horizon. Despite its title, only four of the remixed songs are from No Line on the Horizon. The rest stretch from a Grand Jury mix of If God Will Send His Angels, released in 1997, to Trent Reznor’s take on Vertigo. Other highlights include remixes by David Holmes, Hot Chip, Justice and a reimagining of Happiness is a Warm Gun cover.
Artificial Horizon is on sale now, either on CD or as a limited-edition vinyl set. It’s not clear why the album’s 60 minutes of music have been set across three entire LPs, but the gatefold sleeve will doubtless be pretty. According to U2’s website, vinyl versions will only be manufactured after orders close on 14 May, making the album a “collectors must-have”.

U2’s previous remix album, 1995’s Melon: Remixes for Propaganda, was a fan club exclusive. It regularly sells on eBay for upwards of £30.

Michael Jackson, U2, Take That and the biggest deals in music history

Michael Jackson Estate made history this week when signing a contract with Sony Music Entertainment worth up to £170 million.
The agreement will see ten projects released over the space of seven years as it’s reported that Jackson recorded three albums worth of new material.
This deal propels Jackson’s estate to the top of the list of most expensive record deals ever, but who did he knock off the top spot? And who else has hit the jackpot with mega deals?
1. Irish rock band U2 previously boasted the biggest earnings from a single deal when they agreed to a deal with Polydor Records for a massive £130 million.
2. The acclaimed Queen of Pop Madonna was paid a sum of £120 million for producing just three albums by Live Nation Inc.
3. In 2002, Robbie Williams became ‘rich beyond his wildest dreams’, after striking a £80 million deal with EMI Records to make a four albums.

U2 call rural craftsman to repair broken Grammy

The trophy – awarded for the band’s 1987 album The Joshua Tree – had split into three pieces including the gramophone horn.
So the band’s managers simply searched “trophy craftsmen” online and found Stuart Allcock, who runs a small shop in Taunton, Somerset.
Mr Allcock said he felt ”dizzy” to receive the call but was disappointed to discover the award was made of cheap cast iron that was sprayed gold.
The lifelong U2 fan, who went to a Joshua Tree gig in 1987 and another in 2001, said: ”Taking the call was bizarre – I though it might have been a joke and said: ‘Is this Bono?’
”It turned out to be someone in their management team on the phone.
”I think it got broken pretty innocently, like someone dropped it or something like that.
”When it arrived with me it was broken into three pieces and looked a bit of a state.”
It is not known how the award was damaged, but Mr Allcock and his team at Alpha Trophies in Taunton, Somerset, took two weeks to repair it.
The gramophone had to be welded back on and other parts had to be glued together and resprayed.
Mr Allcock described the work as ”complex” and admitted that working on the famous trophy made him nervous.
He said: ”I wanted to get it looking as good as new and after some skilled welding, the cast iron piece was completely re-sprayed.
”It was a bit nerve-wracking, especially when I had to give it to someone else to be welded, but I was pleased with the result.”
Asked how much he thought the Grammy was worth, he said: ”If it was just an award, not a Grammy and having been given to U2, I wouldn’t pay more than a fiver for it.
”But as it stands, it’s priceless.”

U2 fan’s joy after getting job to fix band’s Grammy

A lifelong U2 fan was thrilled when the band called – and asked him to mend a broken Grammy award.
The trophy, for 1987 album The Joshua Tree, was smashed in three pieces with its iconic gramophone broken.
So band managers Googled ‘trophy craftsmen’ and found Stuart Allcock in Taunton, Somerset. Stuart, who went to his first U2 gig in 1987, felt “dizzy” on the phone. He said “I thought it might be a joke and said: ‘Is this Bono?’.”
But he was disappointed to find it was made of iron and had to be welded, glued and re-sprayed gold. He said: “I think someone dropped it. It was a bit nerve-wracking, but the result was pleasing.”
Asked how much it was worth, he said: “If it wasn’t a U2 Grammy, I wouldn’t pay a fiver. But it’s priceless.”

U2 start work on new album

U2 have revealed that they have begun work on a new album.The follow-up to 2009's 'No Line On The Horizon', the as-yet-untitled album is set to be "really special"."We are working on a lot of new songs," The Edge told EW. "Some of them are really, really happy.

We're convinced that we have something really special."Adding that the band have been working on material in-between legs of their world tour, the guitarist revealed a little more about the making of the album."We are experimenting with a lot of different arrangements, and electronic is one of the things we are playing with," he explained. "But there are other songs that are very traditional, almost folk. That's the thing we haven't figured out yet, where this album is going to end up."Meanwhile, U2 frontman Bono has recorded a new song with Jay-Z, to help raise money for those affected by the recent earthquakes in Haiti.

A video game wants U2

Rock icons U2 are desperate to follow in the footsteps of The Beatles and Metallica and land their own video game.

Bassist Adam Clayton admits he and his bandmates are impressed with the currently released The Beatles: Rock Band which allows fans to play along to the Fab Four's wonderest hits and they want a piece of the action themselves.
Clayton tells USA Today, "We definitely would like to be in there. I love the idea that that's where people are getting music, and we'd love to be in that world. We'll figure something out. What The Beatles have done, where the animation is much more representative of them, is what we're interested in."

U2 want to follow Beatles by having 'Rock Band' game

U2 may follow in The Beatles' footsteps by having their own edition of the 'Rock Band' video game released, despite initial discussions with the game's makers breaking down.

Bono and co had talks last year with the makers of the game, MTV Games and Electronic Arts, but a deal wasn't agreed because of what bassist Adam Clayton called "compromises" they wouldn't agree to.

Now, since the release of 'The Beatles: Rock Band', Clayton has told USA Today that the U2 game could still be on the way.

"We definitely would like to be in there," he said. "But we felt some of the compromises weren't what we wanted. That could change. I love the idea that that's where people are getting music and we'd love to be in that world. We'll figure something out."

The bassist confirmed that it was seeing The Beatles' game that renewed his enthusiasm for a possible U2 version.

"What The Beatles have done, where the animation is much more representative of them, is what we’re interested in, rather than the one-size-fits-all animation," he said. "We didn't want to be caricatured."

The Edge: We're sort of spoiled for choice right now, because there's a bunch of amazing pieces that we didn't finish from the work we did in Fez, and there's the songs we started with Rick Rubin, some of which are amazing songs that I'd love to get back to at some point. Bono and I also have this Spider-Man [musical] project, which we're very glad about. So there are a lot of things on the stove, and they're all very exciting.
Now that this tour is kind of up and running, I'm actually looking forward to getting into those projects, doing some listening back, seeing where they're all at, seeing which one is likely set to go first. The one thing is we'd love to follow this album up sooner rather than later we'll have over three years i dont think or whatever it was between the last two records. It's hard to say (about a U2 Spider-Man album). There will be a Spider-Man album, but whether it's us or the cast, that's the sort of thing we're not sure about. There are some amazing tunes.
Larry Mullen: I definitely think we should do something good as soon as we possibly can, as opposed to quickly. I'm feeling that it's the unfinished songs from this record that we should be concentrating on. I think there's a part two of this record. That would be my instinct, would be to complete this. I think there is slower, meditative stuff on there, but I think there are other things, as well, and I don't think it will end up being that kind of record. I think it will end up being a mixture of a few different things. I would like to think that we would have a song that would end up on the radio.
Rolling Stone: Did you reconvene with Brian Eno to do any recording?
Larry Mullen: We've talked about it, and how we would do it. He went into the studio to have a listen to some things i think so. We will get back together with him.
RS: Over the break between this year and next?
Larry Mullen: Absolutely, yeah. I'd also like to get back to the (Rick Rubin) sessions. I think there's some actually good stuff there.
Bono: Afew year we certainly don't want to go away. (The next) album is called Songs of Ascent, and it's a very clear idea. If we're going to do another rock record, I want to do Spider Man. I just haven't talked Adam and Larry into that.
I would like to have one of our songs on the pop charts. It's my only rejected (with No Line on the Horizon) People love, love the album it's had rave reviews, not just in the U.S., but all over the world. But I would like a few pop songs on it. So I would like, even on Songs of Ascent, songs that have a shot at that. I would like to come back with a new single in the spring "Every Breaking Wave" was Jimmy Iovine's favorite song, and lots of people got upset when we took that off.

Fox performs with U2, Megan

'Transformers' beauty Megan Fox may not have much musical talent, but the stunner got the opportunity to perform with legendary band U2, who let her play the tambourine.
The 23 year old Hollywood beauty who has twice been voted the 'Sexiest Woman Alive' was hosting the popular TV gig 'Saturday Night Live' when she was invited to play with them, reported Us magazine online.
The 'Vertigo' hitmakers were aroused to be sharing the stage with Fox, with lead singer Bono telling the audience.
"SNL is gonna be excellent this week. Megan Fox will be on the tambourine and that’s a good thing," said Bono.
The brunette beauty, who is often compared to superstar Angelina Jolie, played up on her sex symbol status while playing host, showed some fake naked pictures of herself, including one brought in by a 'fan' in which she had the body of a horse.

RIM and U2 announce tour partnership

U2's forthcoming tour, "U2 360 Degrees", will be sponsored by Research in Motion and its Blackberry smartphone range, it's been revealed.

The high profile tour is claimed to feature innovative tech in order to present audiences with a "360 degree" of the band doing their thing, hence the name.

Due to kick off on 30 June in Barcelona, U2 will visit 14 Euro-cities, including ones in the UK, before rocking their way to North America and beyond.

U2 Manager Paul McGuinness said in a press release that the partnership is a "shared vision" between the phone co and the band:

"This tour announcement marks the first stage of a relationship and shared vision between RIM and U2 that we expect will lead to new and innovative ways to enhance the mobile music experience on the BlackBerry platform for U2 fans. We look forward to sharing more details as the relationship unfolds".

U2 had previously enjoyed a close relationship with Apple with the band appearing on stage with Apple CEO Steve Jobs at press events in the past and creating a U2 special edition iPod.
